As a minister, I have spoken to more than a few people, who have observed lights in the sky, UFOs, orbs of light and other phenomena which are relegated to the paranormal. Do you realize, according to recent and reputable polls, more people in America believe in ET than in the God of Creation? From 2012 – 2015, Americans who believe in ET went from 1/3rd of the population to over 1/2.
I can either dismiss these phenomena, or I can find a biblically-rooted answer for them. I choose the latter. These phenomena are so widespread that psychiatrists have had to wrestle with whether these are globally prominent mental conditions, or real & recurrent, physical happenings on the world-wide level. Again, I choose the latter, because I have spoken with highly intelligent, degreed medical professionals, non-medical professionals, other ministers and skilled trade persons alike about their experiences or assessments of others’ experiences.
Ancient Alien (Astronaut) Theorists
Zechariah Sitchin (d. 2010) was an author and ancient alien theorist, who writes that mankind was “seeded” on earth by extraterrestrials. Whether Sitchin was wrong or right in his interpretation of ancient Sumerian texts, one thing alone matters; there is an entire movement centralizing around his “work” — or else, exploiting it. In his many books, Sitchin traces his theory back to ancient Babylonia and to a group called the Nibiru (a.k.a. Annunaki, Nephilim), the very same mentioned in the movie Prometheus by Ridley Scott, who very recently stated he believes “aliens are real & coming for us.”
More recently than Sitchin, Michael Tellinger, protege of the infamous Michael Ledwith, has created and aired his own indoctrinating program on Gaia.com, called Hidden Origins. This all has very New Age philosophical and metaphysical leanings; and New Age proponents for decades have been teaching (under the influence of their demonic “ascended masters”) mankind is being groomed by an intelligent race of extraterrestrials.
Of more ‘scholarly’ renown, the discoverer of the double helix structure of DNA, Francis Crick writes:
Life started on earth as the result of infection by microorganisms sent here deliberately by a technological society on another planet, by means of special long-ranged, unmanned spaceship. F. H. Crick & L. E. Orgel, “Directed Panspermia” Icarus 19 , 343
And, if you’ve seen Ben Stein’s Expelled, then you know that Richard Dawkins believes the same thing. In essence, so did Nikola Tesla, whose extraterrestrial radio signals can only be topped by the highly-esteemed Stephen Hawking’s offer of $100M reward to boost search efforts for ET; or, NASA’s promise by Ellen Stofan (in no uncertain terms) of finding ET by 2025. Carl Sagan also believed in ET as genuine scientific theory of evolution. [See Carl Sagan and I. S. Shklovskii’s book Intelligent Life in the Universe, Holden-Day Publishing, 1984]. No, ancient alien astronaut theory is not exactly fringe anymore, particularly for the University of Cambridge, who have identified 145 genes within humans that appear foreign to our race, and therefore, speculate accordingly. So do certain professors from Oxford.
The Advance of Pluralism and Esoteric Study (occult) & The Connection with Secular Jews.
Since the turn of the new millennium and particularly 2008, the alien film genre has been on the rise. Jupiter Ascending (2015), Interstellar (2014), Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013), Prometheus (2012), Falling Skies (2011-present), Cowboys & Aliens (2011), Apollo 18 (2011), Super 8 (2011), Green Lantern (2011), the Transformers franchise, Fringe (2008-2013), Indiana Jones (2008), Cloverfield (2008), War of the Worlds (2005), Signs (2002), Contact (1997)
Do these and movies like them have a connection besides a sci-fi/extraterrestrial movie genre? How about their all having links to film moguls of the same worldview, like Michael Bay, Stephen Spielberg, Timur Bekmambetov, Daniel Aronofsky, and J. J. Abrams? I guess Greg Beeman and Ridley Scott get a pass as irreligious. But wait! Scott influenced the Wachowskis, and a little digging will show Beeman and Scott work closely with Spielberg. Moreover, Robert Zemekis (Contact 1997) had Spielberg as a mentor. So, ya. Directors, creators, producers… big confluence of worldview. No big deal for the industry, and it’s just what sells. Right? While it is true that this genre sells well, it is naïve to think there is no worldview backing these movies’ narratives. There is a common worldview in back of these directors and creators. Thus, their products. Let me explain:
Regrettable has been the advance of secular pluralism and esoteric study since the early 1900’s. As I lay out for the reader in The Case for a Deliberated Ecumenism series, this advance has entered the ranks of Christendom and even evangelical protestantism. Suddenly, doctrine and history do not matter. Unity is placed above truth. This is a “great falling away” (2 Thess. 2:3), which is promoted by deceiving spirits and the teachings of demons (1 Tim. 4:1-3; 2 Tim. 4:3-4).
Kabbalah is for contemporary, secular Jews the connection to esoteric study and pluralism. And, whether this mysticism is in movies like Darren Aronofsky’s Noah, in internationally recognized symbols such as the Magen David or even just the fact that esoteric minds like the Rockefellers and the Rothschilds funded and pushed the men & organizations to establish the current nation of Israel, there are plenty of occult practices at work these days. What is more, they are finding outworking in fields like physics, nanotechnology, biological/biomedical research and renewable energy.
Please don’t misunderstand me. I am for science, advances in medicine, research, renewable energy and environmental responsibility. But, when these fields proceed without God, then they are only figuratively “godless.” To remove the God of the Christian Bible from one’s worldview is to invite the devil (and his co-horts) of the Christian worldview into one’s life.
Not Aliens, Fallen Angels
The Bible speaks of good or holy angels, and it speaks of evil or fallen angels. As biblicist Christians, we believe in an unseen realm (call it a dimension outside of space-time) where not only God makes himself known but also all angels (good and bad) dwell. Several appearances of all of these beings (even in human form – ex. Gen. 18:2; 19:1; Numbers 13) have occurred; and on occasion, God has allowed his servants to see the unseen (2 Kings 6:17).
The world is being set up for a great deception (2 Thess. 2:11-17), which God will allow. The enculturation of society at large concerning “aliens” is quite possibly, if not probably, the beginning of this deception. When the Christian Scriptures read that Christians will fall away in order to go after myths (2 Tim. 4:4), that is exactly what it means. St. Peter states in contrast (1 Peter 1:16), “We do not follow after cunningly devised fables” (lit. myths).
The ancient myths (lit. mythos), or mythologies [Babylonian, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Germanic, Norse, Hindu] are acknowledged by the Bible as the tales fabricated by demons and, by proxy, demonically-influenced audiences. Are the stories real? In that there have been incursions of demon/human cohabitation before, yes they are real (Gen. 6; Num. 13; Jude 6). In that the myths came from demons, that they are extremely cunning in make-up and are even instructive in “magick,” yes they are real. In that they provide mankind with “secret knowledge” which is powerful and seems to be a benefit—but are really the traps of devils—yes, they are real. In that they lead mankind to worship idols and “dieties” which are demonically inspired, yes the mythologies are real (1 Cor. 8, 10:14-22; 2 Cor. 6:14-18).
The Good Guys and the Gospel of Jesus Christ
There are many good, born-again, biblically sound and mature Christians who have dedicated their lives to confronting the propagation of “ancient alien theory” by calling out what “it” and “they” are–doctrines of demons and fallen angels. These men and organizations work to weed out the misinformation, urban legends and farces that surround the topic, in order to expose the real phenomena ongoing these days. A couple of these are:

Robert Bigelow, NASA Partner Aerospace Mogul in May 28, 2017 7:19 PM EDT 60 Minutes interview:
Robert Bigelow: There has been and is an existing presence, an ET presence. And I spent millions and millions and millions — I probably spent more as an individual than anybody else in the United States has ever spent on this subject….
Lara Logan: Do you imagine that in our space travels we will encounter other forms of intelligent life?
Robert Bigelow: You don’t have to go anywhere.
Lara Logan: You can find it here? Where exactly?
Robert Bigelow: It’s just like right under people’s noses. Oh my gosh. Wow.
The FAA confirmed to us that for years, it referred reports of UFOs and other unexplained phenomena to a company Bigelow owns. He told us he’s had his own close encounters, but declined to go into detail.”
